Benefits
The rules for claiming benefits if you’re under 18 are complicated. You should speak to a Personal Adviser for the most up to date information.
You could be eligible for benefits depending on your circumstances:
- If you have been in work/training you can receive the bridging allowance (lasting up to eight weeks). You need to be registered with Connexions as looking for work/training;
- If you’re under 18 and leave school to look for work or training your family can usually continue to receive child benefit for a few months;
- If you are over 18 you may be able to claim money such as housing benefit, jobseeker’s allowance or income support
Ask your PA for details or go to www.jobcentreplus.gov.uk for loads of information about benefits.
